Shopping in Singapore

Singapore is known for shopping malls, which often combine shops, food outlets, services, cinemas, and transport links. Malls are common in central areas and residential neighborhoods. Orchard Road is a well-known shopping district, while areas such as Chinatown, Little India, Kampong Glam, and neighborhood centers offer different products and cultural settings. The best area depends on what you need rather than on one universal shopping street. Wet markets sell fresh food such as vegetables, fruit, fish, meat, and spices. Supermarkets and convenience stores provide packaged food and everyday goods, while specialty shops may focus on clothing, electronics, beauty products, or household items. Most modern shops accept cards and electronic payments, but small stalls and market vendors may prefer cash or a local payment method. Check the final price and payment options before ordering or paying. Bargaining is not usual in regular malls and chain stores. It may be possible in some independent shops or markets, but polite questions work better than assuming that every price can be changed. Keep receipts and inspect expensive goods before leaving. Return, exchange, warranty, and refund policies are set by the individual seller unless a wider consumer rule applies. Singapore uses the Singapore dollar, and displayed prices may include or exclude taxes depending on the type of seller. For expensive purchases, ask what the displayed price includes and keep the written proof of purchase.
