Language in Saint Kitts and Nevis

English is the only officially designated language in Saint Kitts and Nevis and is used in government, law, courts, education, business and public information. Standard English is the formal variety, while Creole-influenced vernacular speech and local dialects are used mainly in family life, everyday conversation and culture. Schools use a Language Awareness approach that treats home language as a legitimate first language while adding Standard English.
