Politics in Solomon Islands

Politics in Solomon Islands combines constitutional government, public administration and elections at national, provincial and Honiara City levels. The country is a constitutional monarchy: the King is Head of State, while the Governor-General, Parliament and Cabinet perform defined constitutional functions. Elections choose representatives through national single-member constituencies and through the relevant provincial and city institutions.

Elections

Elections in Solomon Islands choose members of the National Parliament, Provincial Assemblies and Honiara City Council. National parliamentary elections use 50 single-member constituencies and a first-past-the-post system: the candidate with the most votes wins. Voting requires registration in one constituency, and the Solomon Islands Electoral Commission manages registration, polling, counting and the publication of results.
