Traditions in São Tomé and Príncipe

Traditions in São Tomé and Príncipe are inherited and socially transmitted practices expressed through festivals, theatre, music, dance, family life, language, clothing and crafts. They combine African, Portuguese and Caribbean influences, but the country has no single national tradition canon: practices differ between São Tomé, Príncipe, communities and families. Tchiloli and Auto de Floripes are prominent public performances, while many other customs remain local or informal.
