Transport in Suriname

Suriname’s transport system combines cars, buses, taxis, boats, aircraft, cycling and walking. Public transport is fragmented: the state-run Nationaal Vervoer Bedrijf and private line-bus providers serve about 70 nationwide lines listed in the 2026 budget, while fares and schedules depend on the service. Cars use the left side of the road, and transport between the coast, the interior and neighboring countries often requires different modes.
