Nature in Tajikistan

Tajikistan's nature includes foothills, river floodplains, forests, steppe, alpine meadows, high-mountain deserts, glaciers and lakes across the Tien Shan, Gissar-Alay and Pamir ranges. About 93% of the country is mountainous, and natural systems support water supply, agriculture, pastoralism, biodiversity and climate resilience. Protected areas cover 21.6% of the national territory, while earthquakes, floods, landslides, avalanches and glacier-related events create natural hazards.
