Living together in Timor-Leste

Living together in Timor-Leste is supported by local community bodies, customary practices, public authorities and formal justice institutions. A Suco is a public-law community body that helps coordinate local interests, preserve peace and resolve community disputes. There is no single national institution for all coexistence matters, so responsibilities are distributed between Suco and Aldeia bodies, municipal administration, the PNTL, courts and civil-society organizations.
