Life stages in Timor-Leste

Life stages in Timor-Leste run from birth registration and early learning through schooling, youth participation, work, parenthood and older age. Support is distributed among public authorities, municipalities, sucos, schools, employers, community groups and families rather than one national life-stage service. Age rules differ by sector: legal majority under the Civil Code is 17, youth is commonly defined as ages 15 to 24, and old-age pension access generally begins at 60. Rural distance, poverty, disability, incomplete registration and climate shocks can change access to each transition.
