State in Timor-Leste

The República Democrática de Timor-Leste is a democratic, sovereign, independent and unitary republic governed by the Constitution promulgated in 2002. The President, the unicameral Parlamentu Nasionál, the Government and independent courts divide the main powers of the State. Public authority operates through national ministries, territorial administration and community structures, while the State budget finances public functions and petroleum revenue is managed through the Petroleum Fund. Constitutional rights, public information, oversight bodies and the security system shape how institutions exercise power in Timor-Leste.
