State in Tonga

Tonga is a sovereign constitutional monarchy whose supreme law is the Act of Constitution of Tonga 1875, revised in 2020 and amended in 2025. The King is head of state, while the Cabinet exercises executive authority and answers collectively to the unicameral Legislative Assembly. Government is organised nationally, with island groups, governors, government representatives and local officers providing administrative links across Tonga.
