Professions in Turkey

A profession is a type of work that uses particular knowledge, skills, and duties. In the Republic of Türkiye, meslek is the common word for an occupation or profession. Some occupations can be entered through general education and workplace learning. Others usually require university education, vocational schooling, practical training, a certificate, or a professional license. Vocational and technical education can prepare people for practical fields such as repair, production, hospitality, care, design, and construction. Apprenticeship and workplace practice are also important routes for some trades. An ustalık belgesi is a master-craft document used in relevant vocational contexts. Mesleki yeterlilik refers to demonstrated professional competence, often assessed against defined occupational standards. Certain professions are regulated because they affect safety, health, law, finance, or public trust. These careers may require specific education, registration, authorization, or supervised practice. A job title does not always prove a person’s qualification. Employers and clients may need to check education, certificates, experience, references, and any required professional permission. Career choice should include daily tasks, working environment, physical demands, income pattern, learning time, mobility, and future development. A respected occupation is not automatically suitable for every person. People should confirm current recognition and licensing conditions with the relevant school, professional body, or public institution. Requirements can differ between occupations and can change over time.
