Everyday food and household goods are sold in supermarkets, neighborhood markets, and small shops. A bakkal is a traditional small local shop that often serves nearby residents. The pazar is an open market, often held on a regular day in a neighborhood. It commonly offers fruit, vegetables, herbs, clothing, and household items, with products displayed by individual sellers. Shopping malls and larger stores provide many brands and services under one roof. Specialist areas may have separate shops for clothing, electronics, furniture, building goods, or traditional products. Turkish labels usually show the product name, quantity, ingredients, and price information. Learn the words for kilogram, gram, litre, piece, fresh, frozen, and expiry date. Cash and bank cards are both used, but the accepted method can differ by shop and by purchase. Keep small cash for markets, small kiosks, transport-related purchases, or places with weak card service. Bargaining is more associated with open markets, tourist areas, and informal sales than with fixed-price supermarkets. Ask the price clearly and check the amount before paying. Receipts are useful for returns, warranties, and checking the final amount. For electronics and expensive goods, keep the receipt, packaging, and warranty information. The main limits are product quality differences, crowded markets, language misunderstandings, and changing prices.
