Labor law in Ukraine regulates the relationship between a person who works and the employer who organizes and pays for that work. The main source is the Labor Code of Ukraine, together with other employment and social protection rules. A worker is called a працівник, and an employer is a роботодавець. An employment relationship is normally based on a трудовий договір, which describes the work, the parties, and the main conditions. A трудова книжка is an employment record, although other official records and documents can also prove work history. Hiring usually includes agreeing on the job, pay, working time, workplace, and start date. The employer should formally register the employment and give the worker information about important conditions. A civil-law contract can look similar, but it normally concerns a specific result rather than regular work under the employer's daily direction. Workers generally have rights to agreed pay, rest, leave, safe working conditions, and protection from unlawful discrimination. Employers must organize work lawfully, protect health and safety, keep required records, and make the relevant social insurance payments. Employment can end by agreement, resignation, expiry of a lawful fixed term, or another legal ground. The correct procedure depends on the ground for ending the relationship. Written notices, employer orders, work records, and final payments are important evidence. A workplace dispute may first be raised with the employer or a trade union. The State Labour Service, commonly called Держпраці, can have an inspection and supervisory role. A worker may also bring a claim before a court when a right was violated. The practical difficulty is that legal rights can be hard to prove when work was informal or agreements were only spoken. Messages, schedules, payment records, orders, witness statements, and copies of contracts can help show what really happened. The first step is to identify whether the relationship is employment or a civil contract, collect the documents, and write down the important events in order. For a serious dismissal, unpaid wage, injury, or discrimination issue, prompt advice from a Ukrainian labor lawyer, trade union, or competent public body is useful.
