Ukrainian Railways, known as Укрзалізниця or Ukrzaliznytsia, connects many cities and towns by passenger train. Trains range from faster intercity services to slower regional and overnight services. Intercity buses are useful where rail connections are limited or when a route is more direct by road. Bus stations may be called автовокзал or автостанція, depending on their size and role. Urban transport can include buses, trams, trolleybuses, metro systems, taxis, and marshrutkas. A маршрутка is a shared minibus, often used on a fixed route with local payment and stopping customs. Tickets may be bought through an app, at a station, from a driver, or with a transport card, depending on the locality. Keep a ticket or payment confirmation when one is provided. Large cities can have crowded vehicles and busy interchanges. Watch your belongings, stand clear of doors, and allow time to find the correct platform, stop, or direction. Taxis may be booked through an app, by phone, or at a designated rank. Confirm the destination and price method before starting, and avoid entering an unidentified vehicle offered by a stranger. Transport can be disrupted by weather, repairs, power problems, curfews, or safety events. Check the route close to departure and follow instructions from station staff and local authorities.
