Elections in Uzbekistan

Elections in Uzbekistan are a constitutional way for citizens to participate in public power. They are held for important national and local offices, and citizens may also take part in referendums when a question is put directly to the voters. The President is elected by citizens in a nationwide vote. Parliamentary elections choose members of the Oliy Majlis, which has the Legislative Chamber and the Senate. Local council elections choose representatives for local representative bodies. The Central Election Commission coordinates the national election system. Regional, district, city, and polling-station commissions carry out practical work such as voter lists, polling arrangements, ballot handling, and the counting process. Voting is based on general participation rules set by law. Citizens who meet the legal voting conditions can cast a ballot, and the vote is intended to be personal, equal, and secret. Before voting, a person should check where they are registered to vote and which polling station serves their address. Official election information explains the voting date, candidates or party lists, and the documents needed at the polling station. At the polling station, election officials verify the voter’s identity and provide the relevant ballot. The voter marks the choice privately and places the ballot in the ballot box according to the instructions. Political parties and candidates present programs, public messages, and campaign activities within the rules of the election. Citizens can compare their plans, experience, and proposed solutions without allowing pressure, threats, or payments to decide their vote. After polling closes, commissions count ballots and record the results. Complaints about election administration should follow the official procedure and should include clear facts, dates, places, and any available evidence.
