Pets in Uzbekistan are commonly dogs and cats, kept in private homes, courtyards, and apartments. The practical conditions depend on the building, landlord, neighborhood, and city. A veterinarian can provide examinations, vaccinations, parasite treatment, sterilization, and advice on feeding and illness. Veterinary services are easier to find in larger cities than in remote areas. Dogs usually need daily exercise and secure control in public places. Cats kept indoors need clean litter, water, safe ventilation, and protection from open windows or balconies. The mahalla is the local neighborhood community and may influence how animals are viewed and managed. Good communication with neighbors is especially important in apartment buildings and shared courtyards. Stray animals may be present, and their health and behavior are not always known. Do not allow children to approach unfamiliar animals, and seek medical advice quickly after a bite or scratch. Pet food and equipment are available through some shops, markets, clinics, and online services, but the selection can vary. Keep a backup supply of essential food and medicine. Traveling with a pet requires preparation such as identification, vaccination records, a suitable carrier, and destination-specific documents. Requirements can differ for entry, exit, airlines, and land borders. Responsible pet care means preventing uncontrolled breeding, cleaning shared areas, and arranging care before travel. Never abandon an animal because housing or travel plans change.
