Transport in Uzbekistan

Urban transport in Uzbekistan includes buses, taxis, shared taxis, and, in Tashkent, the metro. Smaller cities may rely more heavily on buses, walking, and informal or shared car services. The Tashkent Metro is a major city transport system with stations across important parts of the capital. Its usefulness depends on the route between the station and your exact destination. A marshrutka is a shared minibus or small bus service found in parts of the region. Routes and stopping habits may be less obvious to newcomers, so ask a local passenger or driver before boarding. Taxis can be booked through an app, arranged by accommodation, or found informally. Confirm the destination and price before the ride, especially when there is no visible meter. Shared taxis are common for some intercity routes and may depart when enough passengers are present. They can be faster than a bus but offer less predictable departure times and comfort. Trains connect important cities and are useful for some longer journeys. Bookings, seating, luggage arrangements, and travel times depend on the route and service type. Road conditions, traffic, weather, and construction can affect travel. Leave extra time for airports, stations, appointments, and connections. Carry the destination in writing, Uzbek or Russian if possible, and keep a map pin available. Use seat belts when provided, keep valuables close, and avoid entering a vehicle whose arrangement feels unsafe.
