Elections in Vatican City

Vatican City has no general public election in which citizens choose the Pope or state organs. Its central electoral process is the Conclave, a secret-ballot election in which eligible Cardinal electors choose the Supreme Pontiff, meaning the Pope; a valid result requires at least two thirds of participating electors. The elected Pope becomes Vatican City's head of state, while the main state bodies are appointed rather than publicly elected.
