Pets in Venezuela

Dogs and cats are the most common household pets in Venezuela, and many families also care for rescued or community animals. Keeping a pet means providing food, clean water, shelter, supervision, medical care, and humane treatment. A veterinaria is a veterinary clinic or professional service. Basic care may include examinations, vaccination, parasite control, treatment of injuries, sterilization, and advice about nutrition and behavior. Vaccination and rabies prevention are important, especially for animals that roam, meet other animals, or travel. Keep a record of each animal's vaccines, medicines, identification, and previous health problems. Heat, parasites, unsafe streets, traffic, contaminated food, and unfamiliar animals can create risks. Provide shade, water, secure doors or fences, and supervision during walks and outdoor time. Pet food may be sold in supermarkets, pet shops, veterinary clinics, and small stores, while some owners use carefully chosen household foods. Avoid giving animals foods that are known to be harmful, and ask a veterinarian about special diets. Moving with a pet requires a secure carrier or harness, water, cleaning supplies, and the animal's health records. Travel conditions may be stressful, so plan rest and ventilation and never leave an animal in a hot closed vehicle. If you find a stray or injured animal, protect yourself first and contact a veterinarian, shelter, rescue group, or trusted local helper. Do not approach an aggressive or frightened animal without a safe plan. Begin by locating a veterinaria and building a simple daily routine for feeding, water, exercise, cleaning, and observation. Early attention to small changes can prevent larger problems.
