Family in Zimbabwe

Family life in Zimbabwe includes marriage, parenthood, extended-family support, care for children and dependent relatives, household responsibilities, separation and support after death. Extended families and kinship care remain central: 24.6% of children under 18 do not live with a biological parent, and 31.1% of households include an orphan or a child who does not live with a biological parent. Zimbabwean law protects family life, requires free and full consent to marriage, and gives children rights to parental or suitable alternative care.
