Politics in Zimbabwe

Politics in Zimbabwe covers the institutions that exercise public power and the processes through which people choose or influence those institutions. Zimbabwe is a constitutional republic in which executive government, Parliament, courts, electoral bodies and local institutions operate within the Constitution. The subject therefore includes both the organization of the state and elections for national, provincial, metropolitan and local offices.

Elections

Zimbabwe's elections are formal processes for choosing the President, Parliament, provincial and metropolitan councils, local authorities and chiefs. Eligible Zimbabwean citizens register without a fee, vote by secret paper ballot at assigned polling stations, and may challenge results through defined complaint and court procedures. The electoral system combines first-past-the-post seats with proportional-representation quotas and other reserved seats, while constitutional changes published in 2026 may alter how the President is chosen and how long the electoral cycle lasts.
