Employment, called punësim in Albanian, is work performed for an employer in return for wages. The employer may be a private company, a public institution, a nonprofit organization, or an individual business. The employment contract, or kontratë pune, is the main record of the relationship. It should identify the parties, workplace, position, duties, wage, working time, starting date, and important conditions for ending the job. Employment may be open-ended or limited to a defined period or task. Work may also be full-time or part-time, while temporary and seasonal arrangements are common in areas such as tourism, agriculture, and construction. The employer normally organizes the work and pays the agreed wage. The employee performs the agreed duties, follows lawful workplace instructions, protects business property, and observes safety rules. Formal employment connects the worker to the tax and social insurance systems. Wage documents and insurance records can later matter for healthcare access, pensions, benefits, loans, and proof of work history. Workers may have rights concerning rest, leave, equal treatment, dignity, and a safe workplace. The exact application depends on the contract and circumstances, so important promises should not remain only verbal. Employment can end through resignation, agreement, expiry of a fixed term, or dismissal. Written notices, final wage records, and proof of the employment period help prevent later disputes. Before accepting a job, a worker should compare the written conditions with what was promised in the interview. Questions about pay, working hours, registration, duties, travel, equipment, and the reporting manager should be settled before work begins.
