Apprenticeship in Burundi

The statutory apprenticeship arrangement in Burundi combines practical work in a business with instruction at an artisan training centre (Centre de Formation Artisanale (CFA)) or a corresponding section. After compulsory schooling, it can lead to a vocational qualification or a qualification listed in the national certification register. Many people also learn informally with a master craftsperson (maître artisan) or apprenticeship master (maître d’apprentissage); such arrangements do not automatically provide state recognition and differ in protection, quality and proof of training.
