Religion in Gabon

Religion in Gabon includes Christian, Muslim, indigenous and syncretic beliefs, with no state religion. The 2024 Constitution protects freedom of conscience, religion and worship while requiring religious communities to respect sovereignty, public order and the protection of moral and mental integrity. Christian institutions are dominant, Islam is significant, and local practices such as Bwiti remain visible, but no reliable state census establishes exact religious shares. Formal religious associations can register with the Ministry of the Interior to obtain legal and administrative privileges.
