Nature in Honduras

Nature in Honduras includes rainforests, cloud forests, dry forests, mangroves, wetlands, coral reefs, seagrass beds, rivers and savannas, together with the species and natural processes that connect them. The SINAPH, Honduras's national system of protected areas, contains 93 areas in 17 management categories, covering about 5.11 million hectares of land and sea; protected land represents about 28% of the country. ICF, SERNA and local and community partners regulate protection, sustainable use, research and public access through area-specific plans and permits. Fires, drought, storms, floods, landslides, coastal change, habitat loss, illegal extraction and pollution affect how these places can be used.
