Honduras has no unified national residential-environment authority and no consolidated nationwide score for everyday surroundings. Responsibilities are divided between municipalities, public agencies and community organizations. The Secretaría de Recursos Naturales y Ambiente (SERNA) handles environmental policy, environmental licensing through SINEIA and environmental complaints. The Instituto de Conservación Forestal (ICF) manages forests and protected areas through SINAPH. The Sistema Nacional de Gestión de Riesgos (SINAGER), coordinated with COPECO, covers disaster prevention, preparedness, response, recovery and climate adaptation. Municipalities remain central for local infrastructure, waste, noise, public spaces, accessibility and parts of public safety.
Surroundings in Honduras
Everyday surroundings in Honduras are managed by several national agencies, municipalities and community providers rather than one national authority. Water and sanitation, waste handling, air and noise, safety, climate risks, accessibility, green space and land-use change can differ sharply between municipalities and between urban and rural areas. Practical checks therefore require the responsible local provider or authority and, where relevant, national bodies such as SERNA, ICF, ERSAPS or COPECO.
