Apprenticeship in Jordan

Apprenticeship in Jordan is best understood as part of vocational education and training, often called VET. Training may take place in a vocational institution, a specialised centre, a workplace, or through a programme combining these settings. The Vocational Training Corporation is a well-known public part of this system. Other public, private, charitable, and employer-based providers may also teach occupational skills. Common fields include construction trades, electricity, vehicle maintenance, hospitality, sewing, beauty services, industrial work, and other practical occupations. Available fields depend on local institutions and labour demand. Some programmes combine classroom instruction with workshops or workplace practice. Others are mainly centre-based, while an employer may train a new worker directly on the job without using a formal apprenticeship contract. Entry conditions depend on the occupation and training level. A provider may consider age, completed school level, basic literacy and numeracy, health or safety needs, and the learner’s ability to attend regularly. Assessment may include practical demonstrations, written or oral tests, attendance, and completed workplace tasks. A certificate is useful only when its issuer and level are understood by employers or further-education institutions. Vocational routes can lead to employment, self-employment, or further technical study. Their limits may include uneven training quality, limited workplace placements, equipment differences, and a mismatch between a course and actual job openings. A strong choice combines recognised training with repeated hands-on practice. Learners should compare the curriculum, workshop facilities, workplace exposure, safety standards, and graduate pathways before enrolling.
