School in Jordan begins with early childhood options and continues through basic and secondary education. Basic education builds literacy, numeracy, science, social understanding, and other foundation skills. Public schools are a central part of the system and generally teach the national curriculum. Private schools may also teach the national curriculum, while some offer international programmes alongside required local subjects. UNRWA operates schools for eligible Palestine refugee pupils. Other refugee children may enter public, private, or specially supported education arrangements according to their status and available places. Arabic is the main language of instruction in most schools. English is normally taught as an important subject, and some private or international schools use more English in classroom teaching. After basic education, pupils enter forms of secondary education that may be academic or vocational. The route chosen can shape access to higher education, technical study, training, and work. The General Secondary Education Certificate Examination is widely known as Tawjihi. Its subjects and results play a major role in university and college applications for students following the national system. Daily school life usually includes lessons, homework, attendance rules, tests, and communication between families and school staff. Some schools operate in shifts when buildings or places must serve many pupils. A school choice should consider curriculum, recognition, language, travel, learning support, safety, class conditions, and affordability. Families moving between national and international systems should check how records and qualifications will transfer.
