Which authority handles ordinary crime reports in Lebanon?

The Internal Security Forces, commonly called the ISF, handle many ordinary policing matters. The appropriate body can depend on the place and offense, and an official or qualified lawyer can direct a person when responsibility is unclear.

What evidence should I preserve after theft or fraud in Lebanon?

Keep messages, receipts, payment records, photographs, witness details, serial numbers, and a written timeline. Preserve original material where possible and avoid changing, deleting, or publicly sharing evidence unnecessarily.

How can I reduce cybercrime risk in Lebanon?

Use unique passwords, enable an additional verification step, and refuse requests for passwords or one-time codes. Verify urgent payment or identity requests through a separate channel that you already trust.

What should a victim of harassment or violence in Lebanon do first?

The first priority is reaching a safer place and obtaining urgent medical or emergency help when needed. The victim can then preserve evidence and seek support from trusted people, relevant authorities, a qualified lawyer, or a specialist service.

Lebanon has criminal law, police bodies, prosecutors, and courts. The Internal Security Forces, often called the ISF, perform many ordinary policing duties, while other security bodies have separate responsibilities. Common property crimes include pickpocketing, bag theft, theft from vehicles, burglary, and robbery. Crowded places, poorly lit streets, visible valuables, unattended belongings, and isolated cash withdrawals can create opportunities for offenders. Fraud may occur through false sales, rental offers, impersonation, unofficial intermediaries, payment requests, or promises that create pressure to act quickly. Written terms and independently checked identities help people distinguish a genuine arrangement from a deceptive one. Cybercrime can involve stolen accounts, malicious links, fake messages, payment fraud, blackmail, or misuse of personal images and information. A criminal may pretend to be a bank, public body, employer, delivery service, relative, or trusted business. Harassment, threats, stalking, domestic abuse, sexual violence, and assault are serious safety matters. Responsibility always lies with the offender, and a victim may need medical care, a safe place, trusted support, legal advice, or police assistance. A report normally begins by telling the relevant authority what happened, where and when it happened, who was involved, and what evidence exists. The authorities may record the complaint, collect evidence, speak with witnesses, and refer the matter for further investigation or judicial action. Useful evidence can include messages, transaction records, photographs, medical records, witness details, serial numbers, and a clear timeline. Evidence should be preserved without confronting a suspected offender or putting anyone at further risk. Reporting can be affected by fear, social pressure, language, cost, accessibility, or uncertainty about which office is responsible. A lawyer, trusted support organization, employer, school, community contact, or consular representative may help a person understand available steps, but their roles are not the same as those of police or courts. No precaution guarantees safety, and crime should not be blamed on victims. Practical prevention means reducing easy opportunities, recognizing pressure tactics, planning safe travel, protecting accounts, and knowing where to seek help.
