Religion in Lesotho

Christianity is the dominant religious tradition in Lesotho, with Roman Catholic, Protestant, Anglican, Methodist, Pentecostal and independent churches alongside Muslim, Bahá’í, Rastafarian and indigenous-belief communities. The Constitution protects freedom of conscience, worship, teaching, practice and religious observance, while allowing limited restrictions to protect public safety, health, order, morality and the rights of others. Religious communities also operate schools, organize dialogue and conduct ceremonies connected with marriage, birth and death. Public holidays follow the Christian calendar, while other religious observances are generally organized by individual communities.
