Labor market in Nepal

Nepal's labour market is shaped by agriculture, self-employment, informal work and a large foreign-employment pathway, alongside growing services, construction and industry. In the 2021 census, 10,270,447 people were usually employed and 767,658 were usually unemployed among 14,983,310 people aged 10 and above who reported economic activity over the previous 12 months. Access to work depends on skills, education, gender, province, connectivity and migration, while pay and legal protection differ between formal jobs, household enterprises and informal work. Public employment services, technical training, private networks and licensed foreign-employment channels connect workers with opportunities, but none guarantees placement.
