Labor market in the Republic of the Congo

The labor market in the Republic of the Congo combines a large informal workforce with formal jobs concentrated mainly in cities, services, agriculture, construction, logistics, industry, and the oil and gas sector. Around 75% of workers are employed informally, while formal access often runs through the Congolese Employment Agency (Agence Congolaise Pour l’Emploi, ACPE). The statutory minimum wage (SMIG) has been 70,400 XAF per month nationwide since January 2025, but it is not a benchmark for informal incomes.
