Elections in Samoa

Samoa elects one Member of Parliament from each of 51 single-member constituencies. The candidate with the most votes wins, so voters cast one secret ballot for a parliamentary candidate rather than directly electing the Head of State. Registration is tied to Samoan citizenship, age, constituency and, in some cases, village or matai-title records; voting is compulsory for eligible registered voters.
