In Serbia, a poslodavac is the person or organization that hires and directs employees. It can be a privredno društvo, preduzetnik, public institution, association, or another permitted organization. The employer agrees employment through an ugovor o radu or another lawful work arrangement. The contract should make the job, pay, working time, workplace, and main duties clear. A formal employer registers employees for compulsory social insurance and maintains employment records. It also calculates payroll and handles the required contributions and taxes connected with wages. The employer organizes daily work through instructions, schedules, supervision, and internal rules. It must provide a safe workplace, suitable information, and the equipment needed for the agreed work. Employers normally manage leave, sick leave, attendance, performance, and workplace communication. Good records help both sides understand what was requested, completed, paid, or approved. A business employer usually has a legal identity and registration details, such as a business name and registration number. The Serbian Business Registers Agency is commonly known as APR, and its records help identify registered businesses. Employers must respect rules against unlawful discrimination, harassment, unpaid work, and retaliation. They should also protect personal information and use fair procedures when changing work or ending employment. An employer may use an accountant, lawyer, payroll service, or human-resources specialist for support. Outsourcing a task does not remove the employer's responsibility to organize the relationship lawfully.
