Housing differs between dense cities, suburbs, towns, estates, and rural communities. Urban areas generally offer more apartments, while separate houses and family compounds are common elsewhere. A boarding place usually means rented room-based accommodation, and an annex is often a smaller self-contained unit connected to or located on the same property as a main home. Facilities and privacy vary widely. Rental arrangements may cover rent, deposits, notice, repairs, guests, pets, and utility payments. Every important term should be written clearly and understood before money changes hands. Water supply, electricity, cooking arrangements, waste collection, internet access, and mobile signal need direct inspection. A property can look suitable while having weak practical services. Tropical heat and humidity make shade, airflow, roof condition, drainage, and mold important. Mosquito entry points and standing water around the property should also be checked. Seasonal heavy rain can expose leaks, flooding, dampness, and difficult road access. Ask neighbors about past conditions and inspect drains and ground level. Travel time to work, school, shops, health care, and public transport affects daily cost and quality of life. Test the route during the hours when you will normally use it. A written inventory and dated photographs protect both tenant and owner. Record the condition of walls, furniture, appliances, meters, keys, and existing damage at handover.
