Friendship in Syria

Friendship in Syria is a freely chosen, personal, non-romantic relationship maintained through recurring mutual contact. Arabic uses صداقة (ṣadāqa) for friendship and صديق or صديقة (ṣadīq or ṣadīqa) for a friend. Syria has no state register or dedicated legal authority for friendship, so the relationship itself creates no automatic right to inheritance, maintenance, residence, representation or medical decisions. Contact often develops through schools, neighbourhoods, workplaces, sports, cultural or religious groups and digital networks.
