Religion in Tanzania

Religion in Tanzania includes Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Baha'i, Jewish and other communities, as well as traditional beliefs and non-religious positions. External estimates suggest that Christians and Muslims form the largest groups, but Tanzania's 2022 census did not publish an official religious distribution. The Constitution protects freedom of thought, conscience, belief, faith, worship and religious association, subject to legal limits that protect other people and public order. Religious practice, education, marriage, holidays and life events are organized through different communities and institutions rather than one national religious authority.
