An employer in Romania is a person or organization that hires workers and directs their work. The local term is angajator, and the worker is often called an angajat. The employer usually operates through a legal entity such as an SRL or company, or through another form allowed for economic activity. Before hiring, the employer must be able to identify the business and the person responsible for employment matters. For ordinary employment, the employer prepares a written contract individual de muncă, or CIM. It describes the position, duties, workplace, working time, salary, leave, and other conditions agreed within the legal framework. The employer must organize the work, provide the tools and information needed for the job, and pay the agreed salary. The employer also handles required employment records, payroll processes, and reporting of taxes and social contributions. Health and safety are important employer duties. The workplace should be assessed for risks, workers should receive suitable instructions, and protective equipment or training should be provided when the job requires it. An employer must respect equal treatment and should not discriminate because of personal characteristics protected by law. Workplace rules should be understandable, consistently applied, and connected to the actual work. When employment changes or ends, the employer normally provides the relevant written documents and follows the applicable procedure.
