An employer in Vietnam is a person or organization that directs work and pays workers. Common employers include companies, household businesses, public bodies, farms, factories, shops, and service providers. The employer should define the job and agree on the main working conditions with each worker. A written labor contract, or hợp đồng lao động, helps both sides understand their responsibilities. Recruitment should match the real job. Employers should explain duties, workplace, pay, working time, probation, required skills, and important risks before the person starts. Payroll includes the agreed wage and any lawful additions or deductions. Employers also need reliable records for attendance, payments, leave, insurance contributions, and personal income tax procedures. Depending on the employment arrangement, the employer may need to participate in social insurance, health insurance, and unemployment insurance. These duties are separate from simply paying the worker's wage. Workplace safety is a core employer responsibility. The employer should identify hazards, provide suitable instruction and equipment, and organize work so that people can report risks and accidents. Employers often create internal labor rules, called nội quy lao động, for attendance, conduct, safety, use of equipment, and discipline. Rules should be communicated clearly and applied consistently. An employer may change duties, working arrangements, or staffing needs, but important changes should be handled through the proper agreement and process. Dismissal, discipline, and contract termination require particular care.
